DJ of the Week – Ken “Spacefish” Hegarty

Written by on February 12, 2018

Ken Hegarty (also known as Spacefish”) is “Centenary’s own Doctor Frankenstein.”  Almost every Monday and Wednesday from 1pm to 4pm, you can expect him surfing up the more obscure side of the nineteen eighties.  Names like The Smiths, The Psychedelic Furs, and The Cure are just some of the oddball residents on his program while sharing space with the likes of more classic contenders like The Cars, The Police and the Pretenders.

In addition to the tunes, Ken the Spacefish always like to engage with his audience as he often accepts live phone calls on his show.  Ken also has daily updates on where these musical acts have been in the modern times along with weather reports.  Then there is the humorous commentary in between tracks coming from the DJ himself.  Finally, there are the drop-ins which are outlandish audio clips played in between the broadcasts.  He clips themselves range from classic television shows like “The Twilight Zone” to even B movies like “Plan 9 from Outer Space.”  These constant efforts of creativity and hard work by Spacefish are what earned the title of WNTI’s first DJ of the week.

At WNTI.ORG, we are proud of how hard and consistent many of our DJ’s work and we’ll be looking for our next DJ of the week so stay tuned.
