Music Director blog post for the Week of 09/13/2021

Written by on September 15, 2021

The Happy Fits are part of the Sea.Hear.Now Festival’s lineup. The festival will be on
Saturday, September 18th, and Sunday, September 19th at North Beach in Asbury Park.

The Happy Fits are an indie folk-pop band formed in 2016 in Pittstown, New Jersey,
(only 40 minutes away from Centenary University). They are very well known in the tri-state
area. Its three members are Calvin Langman on electric cello and lead vocals, Ross Monteith on
guitar and lead vocals, and Luke Davis on drums and supporting vocals.
All three members went to the same high school, where Langman and Monteith started
writing their own music in their senior years in 2016. Dirty Imbecile was the first song the duo
wrote together.

Langman and Monteith recorded their first EP, Awfully Apeelin’ just before going to
college. When they released it officially that summer, one of the tracks, While You Fade Away,
gained popularity on Spotify and reached #5 on the “United States Viral 50” playlist. Drummer
Luke Davis recorded for the Awfully Apeelin’ EP, but didn’t join as an actual member until
months later. The trio then released a full-length album entitled “Concentrate” on June 15th,
2018 sparking their fulling career as well-known musicians.

Their genre and influences come from a self-described blend of indie rock such as Black
Keys, The Killers, and Young The Giant, combined with a Mumford and Sons feel due to the
inclusion of acoustic guitar and electric cello.
